TOPIC 7: ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF HIGHER EDUCATION 

AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT 


      Assalamualaikum everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Now, we are going to the next topic related to education. The topic is current issues of higher education and sustainability. We know higher education has many roles and responsibilities for all students. If we look at IIUM itself, we can see there are many questions that we want to ask as a student here. Basically. the first thing that we always talk about IIUM education system. Is there anything wrong or what is wrong with the IIUM education system now? The education system is the main thing in higher education. If it has many problems, and no one can handle it effectively, it will ruin anything.  The second question is do we teach what society needs or what industry needs? In my personal opinion, higher education should provide the relevant subject at every cost. Every subject must have its objectives that can make students get opportunities after they finish their studies in higher education, especially in their future careers. 

      Next, we will move on to another question. Is the university a factory for job employment or a balanced character-building process? I think everything that the university organized for every student is perfect because, in higher education, students not only focus on their studies but also joined many activities that give them many experiences, skills and new knowledge. So. I can say that university is not only a place to students gets the opportunity to build a career but also it can build a character that has many benefits for them and also for society. In addition, IIUM organized many events, programs and activities that the management is fully handled by students. I can see that there are many students from IIUM has a good potential to build up their character and also their career.

      Besides, another question is what kind of education does IIUM give to its students? As a student here, I can say that IIUM provides a good education to every student because there are many things that students considered the subject is not needed to them but after they learn many things, their mindset changes and they also gain new knowledge and improve their potential and skills to be better. The last question is Where and what is the role of Islam in our universities? In IIUM, the culture of Islam is the main objective of this university. When we jump into their education, this university is very concerned with the manner and behaviour of students such as how they use, how they talk, how they communicate with others, how they keep their relationships between different gender and so on. 

      To sum up, all the things that I mentioned are a general overview from my own perspectives and it just gives an example of how the institutions of higher education do their roles and responsibilities related to sustainable development in our society.
