TOPIC 9: WHAT IS EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT?



  Assalamualaikum everyone! We'll meet again. So, my topic today is "What is education for sustainable development? Based on what I learned, there are three concepts about education for sustainable development. The first concept is a broader concept than environmental education. The second concept is not sustainable development education but education for sustainable development. The last concept is education to enable all people to better contribute to the sustainable development of their own and other societies. 

   In addition, I also learn the definition of education for sustainable development. My lecturer explained the reports are easy, simple and understandable. Firstly, it can improve access to and retention of quality primary education. Next, it reorients existing education to address sustainability. Other than that, it improves public understanding and awareness of sustainability. Lastly, it provides training related to sustainability to all sectors of the economy, such as governments, businesses, industry and so on.

  Moreover, I think it's also important to know, learn and understand about teaching and learning for sustainability. There are five skills that we must learn to achieve the objectives of education for sustainable development. The first skill is learning to know, such as eagerness to know about something like general knowledge and understand it clearly. After we know something, we should do and try to practice, right? So, this is the second skill that we must learn. We must learn to do to develop our potential, abilities and skills. Next, we must learn to live together.  In teaching and learning, we should behave well to ensure they are comfortable with us. For example, showing tolerance to others in the group, mutual understanding and interdependence.

   Last but not least, I can say that we should have much knowledge to improve our skills, abilities and potential to make us easy to practice and get good values from what we learn and experience in teaching and learning for sustainable development. Knowledge is essential to develop our skills. Still, we should remind ourselves that knowledge without attitude can not make people successful because attitude is related to learning and skills. To achieve our objectives, we should know and do the education principles. In Islam, attitude also is the number one in our life. So. be an excellent manner to expand your knowledge from what you have experienced or maybe from your friends, classmates and others. 

     Furthermore, education for sustainable development empowers everyone to make informed decisions in favour of environmental integrity, economic viability and a just society for present and future generations. It aims to provide the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary to address sustainable development challenges.
